This **could** be fun...
I don't know most of you because I was only at FWC for one year. But I read one post from Brett mentioning his friend Angelica who I know from London. So we're one degree apart.
I was in London in 1989-1990 with Angelica, Dave Ridgeway, Stephanie, Nancy, Vanessa, Natasha, Anja, Miho, Jana, Kelly, Abby, John, Sami, Alex and lots more that I'm not thinking of this second.
Do we practically know each other?

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 5:40 AMMy first year was at the NAC when it was in Huntington (Lloyd Harbor), 1990-91. I also attended the Middle-East/Israel Center in 1992-3, and the European Center in 1995-6. I was Student Exec in 1993-4 (so I know a lot of people from that year). I met a bunch of the folks in this tribe at World Conferences/Graduations when/after I graduated in 1996, and I know Lori from the European Center.
Lianna, if your Vanessa is Vanessa Mohr, then I know her (but not well). Jana I've seen more recently, as she works at the Independent Study Degree Program at Lesley University, which is where I'm working on my Masters degree. I met Miho and Angelica at one point or another. -

Fri, March 23, 2007 - 7:34 PMHi Jonathan,
I went to the European Centre with Jana in 89-90. We lived in George's boarding house by Finsbury park at the same time for a while. Can you have her send me a message, or better yet, get her to join this group? I'll send you my email address offline if you want it.
/John

Tue, August 23, 2005 - 12:24 PMOk, this is fun. But I'm much more recent in friends world:
2001-2002- NAC
2002-2003-CRC
But I went to graduations and world conferences during those years too, so I know people I didn't take classes with. -

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 5:50 AMSad news that isn't so new. Sammy Fialkoff died December 2nd, 1994. Sammy and I were also at the North American Center together in Huntington in 1987-88, and we were house mates in London. Of my original starting class from 1987 of about 50 people, I know of 3 that are dead. That's a pretty high percentage for 38 year olds.

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 6:48 AMWow, that is heavy. Is there some link to FW? I mean, to the type of people that FW attracts, or the kinds of things we tend to do? I feel that we also have a higher incidence of professors and or their spouses dying? Maybe it just feels that way. -

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 9:19 AMThey all died of very different causes. One died in a fire in 94, one was shot while rafting in Peru in 95, and one was a suicide victim last year. I didn't mean to put such a downer on this thread. This 3 out of 50 is with about 2/3 of the class accounted for. Do other classes have similar stats? -

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 10:46 AMYeah, I think most classes have lost a few, We lost our close friend Marla about two years ago. She was killed working in Iraq. And I know another student a few years behind me died in a car accident. Our professors wife died in the Kenyan Embassey bombings. But I think the marriage of FW are a bit more intersting Lori and Anthony are both alumni who married. I am also amazed at how tightly I stay in touch with my friends from FW even 10 years after the fact. I have met back up with several and it always seems like no time has passed, I can joke and touch as if it were 10 years ago. My friends from FW are some of the people I would completely trust, because I know they would be absolutely honest with me. -

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Sat, April 28, 2007 - 8:41 PMI’ve been a bit bugged out by the abandonment of the cherry tree. At Southampton College there was a good ol' prunus serotina with a plaque at its base commemorating the dead of FW student who had died of Malaria. I often think of that students parents and the plaque and wonder how they both are getting along. -

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Fri, June 1, 2007 - 3:14 PMPetty, I have never seen the cherry tree. I was with the group of students in Kenya -91 when Renee La Fleur died. I have just added some photos.

Re: For fun - let's play six degrees of...
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 3:19 PMHere is my freaky story. I have been tracking people down for a gathering of FWC students who were on the NY campus during the 1987-88 school year. One person in particular I have been looking for for many years. Anyway, I finally found him through his Amazon wishlist, and the fact he was a Star Trek fan. He has been living in Japan since graduating college in 1991 or 92. Pretty weird, eh?
So I was in an IM chat session with him, and I sent an infrared image of the building I work in to him when the subject of photography came up. He said, "so you work at Cognex?". I answered yes, and he told me so did his brother. Cognex is not some huge company. We have hundreds of employees not tens of thousands. Anyway, I thought of my friend when I saw the last name of his brother go by in email threads and such, but it is a pretty common sounding name, so I never put it together. All that time looking for him, and we were only separated by 1 person, and it spanned from the US to Japan. I wonder how far apart we really are from our long lost friends in this high tech age nowadays?
