Anyone else remeber that, when we all got dressed up with what ever we could find, Marla was Barbara Walters, Christine was the Wug (Whoog) and Erin was Punky Bruster. Then we went to that club and they herded us into a room and told us we could not leave until we gave them money. And We had to pull Marla of the 7ft huge guy in the door way cause she was yelling at him. It was a bad night, I remeber going back the next day with Profesor Dalizu and no one was there. It was weird. Anyway, I just needed to share it cause I was thinking about it all morning.

Re: Its October, I was thinking about Halloween in Arusha
Fri, October 13, 2006 - 12:31 PMThere is a pic of Erin, Marla, and Rebecca in the photo section of this tribe. And I think one of the whole group? Didn't you post those Brett?
That WAS funny. But infuriating at the same time. The best for me was Bibi Josephine helping me braid my hair, lending me her outfit, and buying those big glasses on the street, so we could all march to Wuganga's room and show off the outfit, then she wasn't even there! -

Re: Its October, I was thinking about Halloween in Arusha
Mon, October 16, 2006 - 8:37 AMI posted the picture of Marla and the others which is funny because I was a wet blanket and did not participate. I had a bad feeling about that night so I stayed home. I also have a photos of everyone but I don't think that I posted it. Maybe someone else did?
I remember that Marla was a character from the Bold and the Beautiful because so many Kenyans (including Bibi Josephine) religiously watched the 10 year old reruns on TV weekly. But my memory sucks so I might be wrong. -

Re: Its October, I was thinking about Halloween in Arusha
Mon, October 16, 2006 - 3:56 PMyeah, i think that Marla was brooke? I don't remember, i didn't watch the show, but i seem to remember that was the character she was going for. If that is a character from Bold. I remember everyone wanting to know what was happening on the show (because they were on a lag, so we had more recent episodes showing in the US) and thought i was useless for not knowing more.
You were right about the night, not a wet blanket at all.

Re: Its October, I was thinking about Halloween in Arusha
Tue, October 17, 2006 - 7:31 AMTHat and there fascination with "Small Wonder" I still remember the day my host family in Western Kenya asking me if we really had robots that did our house chores for us. The best part was he asked with a completely straight face and I had to do my best not to laugh. I can totally understand how he might think that after watching the show. They loved that show. -

Tue, October 17, 2006 - 6:03 PMWell does a Roomba count? Its not exactly a little girl robot, but it does vacuum the room by itself. -

Re: Its October, I was thinking about Halloween in Arusha
Wed, October 18, 2006 - 3:10 PMHa! Good point. That show was so funny because the special effects were SO SUPER BAD and even her "flesh toned" fake computer panel on her back that was always breaking down looked utterly strange and false.
It's amazing what people from other countries think of us as a whole. My students constantly assume that I must eat at McDonald's at least twice a day, just because I am from here.
